While addressing a rally in Bagalkote, Karnataka, PM Modi accused the state government of attacking Neha Hiremath's dignity to save their 'vote bank'. He further asserted that fundamentalists in Karnataka have become uncontrollable as a shopkeeper was attacked for listening to Hanuman Chalisa.

An MCA student of KLE Technological University and daughter of Congress Councillor Niranjan Hiremath, Neha Hiremath was hacked to death by former classmate Fayyaz on the college campus in Huballi on April 18, Thursday. The father of the victim has alleged that Fayyaz was Neha's jilted lover and killed her after facing rejection.
