TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO PRIME MINISTER WARNS OF AN OVERWHELMED PARALLEL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

By a staff reporter: Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, warned the nation on Thursday that if the current trajectory of covid19 infections and deaths remain or even goes higher, the parallel health care system will be overwhelmed in a matter of days.

He also stated that the population had become desensitized to the rising numbers of cases and deaths. The Prime Minister said the vaccination numbers were alarmingly low, and there was little change in public behavior and attitude.
According to him, Quarantine works, vaccines work, mask wearing and sanitizing
work.

In his address, he warned that the government may have no choice but to implement extreme measures. But there is still time to pull Trinidad and Tobago back from the precipice; he stated that the only way to do so is to get vaccinated.

Dr Rowley said he still hoped to open beaches from 5am to 12pm daily, in time for Christmas, but only if the numbers allowed. The Prime Minister added that Carnival 2022 might also be able to happen, but in a limited capacity.
