ARTIST WHO ESCAPED TO CANADA FROM IRAQ USING PAINT AND CANVAS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR REFUGEES

By Chandrayee Roy Choudhury, Canada:

Artist Harem Tahir, a Vancouver artist and former refugee is putting paint to canvas in an effort to raise money for newcomers to Canada as they make the difficult resettlement transition.

Tahir came to Canada in 2017 as a refugee. The transition hadn't been easy. A lot of things are on htmind as his family is back home in Iraq, and every night he worries himself to sleep thinking if anything bad happens to them.

Tahir understands the plight of the refugees well.

In support from an organization they helped him start to rebuild his life as an artist..they opened the door for him to get to know the Art here, the community of art, going to galleries and introduction with other artists.

Harem Tahir is inspiring because he reminds us that people have endured so much, but at the same time, thinking of rebuilding their lives, giving back, and giving expression to the full range of their artistic ideas.
