SEVERE CASES OF MIS-C IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO’S UNVACCINATED CHILDREN

By a staff reporter:

Since T&T’s government’s rollout of vaccines to children ages 12-18, there has been a decrease in MISC cases and with there being 76 cases since the start of the pandemic and no deaths, Se¬nior Pediatric Emergency Med¬i¬cine Spe¬cial¬ist at the Er¬ic Williams Med¬ical Sci¬ence Com¬plex Dr Joanne Paul said that MIS-C cases are only in those children who are not vaccinated against covid-19.

According to Dr Paul, there are currently 5 children as young as 1 month old admitted into the parallel healthcare system. Since the start of the pandemic, 342 children have been admitted.

At the Health Ministry’s covid-19 update on Wednesday, Dr. Paul added that children with NCD’s are now presenting severely ill and require hospitalization. As such, she called on parents to get those children vaccinated. In addition, Dr. Paul said parents have been turning up to hospitals too late with their children

So far there have been 12 covid-19 deaths in children under 18 with 11 under the age of 16.
