Police failure lead to the violence, deaths in Birbhum: Initial report

BY A STAFF REPORTER:

Did police inaction lead to violence and deaths in Buktai village in Rampurhat in Birbhum ? According to the initial report, Birbhum police have allegedly misjudged the gravity of the situation as the violence began to simmer on Monday evening. Sources at the state police headquarters in Bhabani Bhaban mentioned that first reports of violence reached Rampurhat police station in the afternoon. According to the initial reports, police initially did not take the issue seriously. Three persons suffered injuries in the clash. The TMC leader, who is the deputy head of the local gram panchayat succumbed to his injuries and died. Even after the news of his death reached the police station, officers did not react to the gravity of the situation. Although Birbhum Superintendent of police, Nagendra Tripathi was directed to reach the spot on Monday night, he informed senior officers that the situation is under control. In fact Tripathi told his senior officers that he will visit the spot on Tuesday morning. The OC and SDPO, Rampurhat also took the issue very lightly in the initial stage.
