Birbhum deaths: BJP demands President Rule, TMC claims law and order better than other states

BY A STAFF REPORTER

Is the Birbhum incident a pointer to the deterioration of the law and order situation in Bengal? BJP is advocating a President's rule in Bengal, claiming a ``complete breakdown of law and order machinery in the state.'' Political leaders were murdered in Jhalda and Barrackpore followed by incidents of violence and clashes and culminating in eight persons being burnt to death in Rampurhat,'' BJP national spokesperson Bharati Ghosh said. ``There is no rule of law in Bengal. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has lost all control over her administration,'' she added. TMC however claimed that this incident is a fall out of an internal family dispute between two groups which is not connected to politics. ``West Bengal is one of the most peaceful states in the country. The law will take its own course and the guilty will be brought to book,'' a senior TMC leader of the area said. TMC Birbhum district President Anubrata Mondol told reporters that several accused persons have been arrested.
