By a Staff Report:Β Hockey fans in Alberta have a lot to celebrate.
Both the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have locked up spots in this upcoming post-season.
The Flames sit atop the Pacific Division with a 49-20-10 record. They became the third Western Conference club to nail down a playoff spot last weekend.
The Oilers and Flames have met five times in the post-season in the 1980s and early β90s. Edmonton took all of those series except for one, in which they scored on themselves in Game 7 to give the Flames the series victory.
Flames fans are feeling more confident this time around, with several telling, they would triumph in a potential provincial matchup.
Some hockey data analysts seem to back up that claim.
The Flames and Oilers have four of the top goal scorers in the league: Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk on the Flames, and Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on the Oilers.
βRegardless of who wins that, it will probably be talked about for a long, long time."
