By Chandrayee Roy Choudhury, Canada-The 2022 Juno Awards kicked off on Sunday in Toronto with whirlwind performances by Hamilton rockers Arkells and Canada, Regina-born Tesher.
Tesher's hit Jalebi Baby even had a cameo by Junos host Simu Liu.
Other Canadian stars got their moments too, including Montreal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin, who emerged the biggest winner of the year with a total of four trophies.
Mendes also pocketed a special international achievement award for his global impact on music, which he accepted with a reflection on his stratospheric rise to success.
The 51st Junos also featured performances by Lavigne and Cardin. The night included special presentations for both Mendes and Deborah Cox.
