By A Staff Reporter : The Atal Tunnel is one of the developmental works in India during the 75 years of independence.In 2000, Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee decided to build the tunnel.The tunnel was inaugurated two years ago by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The world's longest tunnel, with a length of 9.2 km, has been built with the help of modern technology at the Pir Panjal Range in the Himalayas at an altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level.The road from Manali to Leh is closed for six months due to snowfall in winter.This time it will be possible to maintain the connection all year round through the 'Atal Tunnel'.Now the journey from Manali to Leh will save 4 to 5 hours.This horse-shaped tunnel is a single tube, double lane tunnel. The road is about 6 meters wide. The overhead clearance of the tunnel is 5.525 m. The tunnel has a 3.7 × 2.25 meter fire proof emergency exit.The army will reach Ladakh through this tunnel this winter as well.
