He had appeared in court in 2009 in a model code of conduct violation case. Advocate Dhirendra Kumar Singh, counsel for Lalu Prasad Yadav, said, "After hearing former Bihar chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's plea, the court imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him. The case has been settled and he is now free of charges. He doesn't need to come here anymore. "
