Death toll rises to 173 in Assam, lakhs of people in relief camps

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The death toll continues to rise in Assam. Fourteen more people died in the northeastern state in the last 24 hours due to flood situation. The death toll has risen to 173. Six people died in Cachar district. Three people have died in Nagaon. Two people died in Barpeta. The death toll in Karimganj, Kokrajhar and Lakhimpur districts is one each. More than 63,000 hectares of land is still submerged. Due to which it is feared that a lot of crops may be damaged. 

                                                

According to the disaster response force authorities in Assam, more than 29 lakh people are suffering. 2,450 villages in 30 districts have been devastated. More than three lakh people have taken shelter in 563 relief camps. The waters of the Brahmaputra river and Kapili, Disang and Buridihang rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
