``Don't look at the political colour of a criminal. If a crime has been committed and there are sufficient evidence against the accused person or persons, then feel free to go ahead and put him or her behind bars.'' The state state director general of police,
Manoj Malviya spelt out the government's clear intent at the meeting of police chiefs of south bengal region in Kolkata on Tuesday. In the three hour long meeting which started at 12 noon, Malviya defined his requirement, mentioning that SPs need to rush to the spot at the ``very hint of an emerging law and order problem.''
``The situation goes out of hand when SPs stay in their chamber and remote control law and order operations through their junior officers,'' he mentioned. The tough talking DGP minced no words in instructing the district police chiefs that they should not try to withhold information from superior officers and police directorate. ``Please keep superiors in the loop,'' he advised. Malviya also scrutinized important cases in the districts and reviewed their progress. The meeting was the first of the three such meetings covering the police districts across Bengal.
