Howrah country liquor deaths puts police role under scanner
BY A STAFF REPORTER

Illicit country liquor claimed eight lives in Malipanchghora in Howrah. Police said these youths were suspected to have consumed the country liquor yesterday and died. Local residents alleged that the area is infested with illegal country liquor dens. ``We have complained several times to the police but they always turn a blind eye,'' claimed a local. The recently appointed Howrah police commissioner Praveen Tripathi ordered a probe. Questions are being asked as to why police did not take any action against the illicit country liquor huts ? Why were these allowed to run right under the nose of the authorities?
