A work of art. An unification of culture. A touch of history and religion. Durga puja is an all encompassing festival. Four of Kolkata’s top puja organisers, Chakraberia Sarbojanin, Samaj Sebi, Beleghata 33 Palli and Haridevpur Adarsha Samity had an luncheon interaction with the Consul general of China Zha Liyou at his residence. In probably a first, the top Chinese diplomat accepted a proposal of facilitating Chinese tourists to visit Kolkata during the Durga Puja and soak into the festival. Taking a step further, consul general Liyou also announced that the puja committees will make a presentation of the Durga Puja to Chinese people and officials in near future. The four puja organisers, all past winners of Impact Sharad Ananda, will also showcase Durga Puja tradition and culture and heritage to international visitors. “I am proposing more people to people contact and is very keen on the proposal of having Chinese visitors in Kolkata during our own spring festival,” he said. In course of sumptuous lunch, Durga Puja committee members shared their experience of visiting China and also about organising the up and coming festival.
