​BY A STAFF REPORTER: Today is Mahasaptami. The joy of Durga Puja has gathered from the city to the village. But did you know that at one time the zamindarbari of Itahar was washed away in the waters of Mahananda? It's surprising to hear, but it's true. It is known that zamindar Roy Chowdhury lived in the Churaman area of Itahar. 



It was there that Goddess Durga was worshipped. However, rajbari goes into the mahananda river. Then a new rajbari was built in Bhopalpur. Then the tradition of Durga Puja started in the royal palace of Bhopalpur. The zamindari was of Krishna Chandra Roychowdhury. His wife Durgamoyee Chaudhurani started the Festival in Churamon in 1335.
