World Cup 1950: Brazil's defeat in front of 2,00,000 spectators
By a Staff Reporter

In 1950, the world saw one of the greatest World Cup football matches of all time. Brazil needed only one draw to win the World Cup after defeating Sweden 7-1 and Spain 6-1. The Brazilians were favourites before the game and there was enough pressure on them as the match was at their home ground. Brazil were 1-0 ahead at half-time in front of a record 2,00,000 spectators at the Estadio Maracana. But in the last 25 minutes of the match, Uruguay went ahead with two goals. Dreams scattered of Millions of Brazilians.
