A former banker, Viktor Babaryko, was found guilty of taking bribes and money-laundering, and has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. Babaryko alleged that the charges were fabricated to prevent him from challenging Alexander Lukashenko in last year's election. He is among the top opponents of Lukashenko who have been either jailed or forced into exile.
