Kolkata police writes to city Clubs to use breath analysers to check drunken driving

BY A STAFF REPORTER

In a major initiative against drunken driving, Kolkata police has written to major clubs of Kolkata urging the management to test their members and guests on self drive with breath analysers on the level of alcohol. According to senior officers of Kolkata traffic police, the initiative is expected to help the Clubs identify members and guests on self drive who have overshot the permitted level of alcohol. “The club can urge the members and guests not to self drive their vehicle and instead hire a car to return home,” a senior police officer said.

The Kolkata police officers claimed that they had taken the initiative after last year’s survey indicated that most of the drunken driving cases were of members and guests coming out of Club and party premises. The Kolkata police letters have reached some of the prominent city clubs like RCGC and officials hoped that this will help cut down on drunken driving.
