Paramount was the birthplace of a literary movement in the nineteenth century that changed the course of Bengali literature.It was the haunt of Premendra Mitra, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Buddhadev Bose and Achintya Sengupta for about 15 years in the 1920s and 1930s.The seating area at Paramount was inside a dirty room where secret meetings of the revolutionaries took place.Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was also present in the meeting.
