Intelligence agencies claim illegal immigrants procuring Indian identity documents but how?

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Are illegal immigrants crossing over along the porous Indo Bangladesh border legitimising their stay in India by procuring passport and aadhar cards? The intelligence agencies claimed that they have intercepted several illegal immigrants carrying valid Indian passports and aadhar cards in fake identities. ANM News checked up with the regional passport office in Kolkata and was informed that passports are issued based on production of documents. A senior  officer associated with the regional passport officer mentioned that it is the duty of the police to verify the credentials of the persons. But passports are usually issued much before the police verification report. The officer clarified that passport is not ``the first identity document.'' ``It is issued after aadhar card, driver's license or voter's identity card.'' How are the illegal immigrants managing to procure original aadhar card, driver's license or voter identity card is the million dollar question. Locals living in villages along the border areas however told ANM News that there has been a major influx over the last few years allegedly ``changing the demography of the areas.''
