BY A STAFF REPORTER: After a high-voltage campaign, the electoral battle in two key northeastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland has reached its final stage as voters decide the fate of the candidates on Monday. Voting in both the states will begin at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm. In Meghalaya, over 21 lakh (21,75,236) voters, including 10.99 lakh women and 10.68 lakh men, will decide the fate of 369 candidates. There are around 81,000 first-time voters in the state. Polling will be held in 3,419 polling stations spread across 59 assembly constituencies in the state. Of the 60 assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 are in the Khasi, Jaintia Hills region and 24 in the Garo Hills region. There are 369 candidates in the fray, of which 36 are women. Out of the total candidates, 44 are contesting as independent candidates.
