Govt orders 118 tanks from Heavy Vehicles Factory for 75 bln rupees
‌The defence ministry has placed an order for 118 Main Battle Tanks Arjun Mk-1A with its Chennai-based Heavy Vehicles Factory.

‌The 75.23-bln-rupee order, placed on Thursday, will provide "further boost to the 'Make in India' initiative in defence sector and is a big step towards achieving 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'", the government said in a statement.
‌
‌"This production order to Heavy Vehicles Factory opens up a large avenue in defence manufacturing for over 200 Indian vendors including micro, small, and medium enterprises, with employment opportunities to around 8,000 people. This will be a flagship project showcasing the indigenous capability in cutting edge defence technologies," the statement added.
‌
‌Designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the MBT Arjun Mk-1A is an upgrade on the Arjun MBT, the Indian Army's in-service main battle tank and is "at par with any contemporary in its class across the globe".
