Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd has partnered Taiwan-based personal computer maker Acer for contract manufacturing of laptops in India, financial daily Business Standard reported today.

Dixon Tech will reportedly make laptops under the government's production linked incentive scheme, initially for the domestic market and could consider exports at a later stage, the report said.

The Indian electronic manufacturing services company will start the production in December, with 500,000 Acer laptops annually at its plant, according to the report. The plant will reportedly have an initial capacity of around 700,000 laptops a year, which could be further extended to 1 mln in the next phase.

The report also said that Dixon Technologies is setting up another plant with a capacity to manufacture 2 mln tablets a year.

The company is in talks for long-term contracts with global players.

On Thursday, shares of Dixon Technologies closed 0.6% higher at 4,865.80 rupees on the National Stock Exchange.
