By a staff reporter: Princes Town MP, Barry Padarath is calling on the Regulated Industries Commission to break their deafening silence on the commission’s hosting of public consultations on impending hikes in utility rates.
In an interview with ie News on Thursday, the Opposition Shadow Minister of Public Utilities indicated that the commission should be at the final stage of completing the process of recommending increased utility rates based on the information in the public domain.
The MP stated that increased rates in the utility sector would impact every single citizen in this country and the government and the Regulated Industries Commission cannot use the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse to bypass this stage of the process.
He further indicated that the Regulated Industries Commission should be very clear to the public when the consultations would commence and that the consultations should be extensive throughout the country.
