New Delhi: BJD MP Dr. Sasmit Patra has strongly criticized the central government for its refusal to grant special category status to states like Odisha, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Patra reiterated his party's long-standing demand, stating, "Our party has been consistently demanding special category status. This kind of negative approach, anti-state approach by the central government is extremely unfortunate. BJD will continue to demand for special category status for the state of Odisha."

He pointed out that the issue was raised in a recent all-party meeting, "Yesterday in the all-party meeting, parties from Bihar and Andhra Pradesh demanded it, and BJD demanded it for Odisha."

Dr. Patra condemned the central government's stance, particularly the recent denial of special category status for Bihar, saying, "I think it's high time that the union government cannot shy away from this fact of providing special category status to states like Odisha, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh and today's statement of denying it for Bihar, I strongly condemn it."
