BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, the Calcutta High Court transferred the Sandeshkhali case including the ED attack and Shahjahan Sheikh's matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation on 5th March, Tuesday.
The transferred cases were previously under the Nazat police station of West Bengal. However, the CBI will now take over the probe into the Sandeshkhali matter concerning the attack on ED sleuths and allegations on Shahjahan Sheikh.
Moreover, Calcutta HC has directed that both cases with their relevant documents shall be transferred to CBI by 4:30 PM today.
Prime accused in the Sandeshkhali matter, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on 29th February, Thursday. He was suspended for six years by the Trinamool Congress.
A village located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
