On October 13, 2024, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Trichy Airport made a notable interception involving a passenger bound for Malaysia on Batik Airlines flight OD223. Acting on intelligence, customs officials discovered foreign currencies totaling the equivalent of INR 49,11,030 concealed within the passenger's belongings.

In addition to the cash, authorities recovered 552 pieces of gold nose pins and small ear studs, weighing a total of 124 grams and valued at approximately INR 8,82,880. These items were cleverly hidden among 50 jewelry showcase pieces placed in the passenger's checked-in carton box.

The passenger was promptly arrested, and further investigations are underway to uncover the broader implications of this smuggling operation.
