At least 237 people were killed and over 900 people were injured after a collison took place between Coromandel Express and Bengaluru Howrah Superfast Express near Bahanaga Railway Station on Friday. The Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the spot of the accident on Saturday Morning to inspect the damage and also ordered high level probe into the derailment.
As a result due to this accident DMK party has cancelled celebrations for birth centenary of former CM M Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu. Goa Mumbai Vande Bharat Express flagging off was cancelled, two Bengaluru bound train from Howrah was cancelled. Air Force helicopter reached the accident site. Commiserations were also offered by PM Narendra Modi and Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee on twitter. The Tamil CM MK Stalin,along with Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik declared state mourning and the rail minister Mr. Vaishnaw also ordered a compensation of rupees 10 Lakh for family members of deceased, 2 lakhs for the grevious injuries,, and 50,000 for minor injuries. Tributes also flew in from Camnada and Nepal. The NDRF team is providing relief and assistance to the needy. The identified bodies are being either given to family members or are being transported to their respective destinations after autopsy.
