BY A STAFF REPORTER: While addressing an all-women's rally in Barasat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asserted that women have been tortured under Trinamool Congress' rule in West Bengal.

PM Modi further alleged that the West Bengal government is not allowing the operation of the Women's helpline, an initiative of the central government, in West Bengal.

PM Modi accused TMC of protecting Shahjahan Sheikh, the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali incident. PM Modi also emphasized that TMC has faith in their leaders but not in the women of West Bengal.

Yesterday, A CBI team went to Bhawani Bhawan to take over Shahjahan's custody from the Bengal CID as per the Calcutta High Court's order today. However, the Bengal CID refused to transfer custody as the West Bengal government has moved to the Supreme Court to challenge HC's verdict.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday transferred the Sandeshkhali case including the attack on ED sleuths and allegations on Shahjahan Sheikh to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Prime accused in the Sandeshkhali matter, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on 29th February, Thursday. He was suspended for six years by the Trinamool Congress.

A village located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
