Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called for stricter measures to tackle the issue of unauthorised and illegal constructions in the state. Speaking on the matter, CM Sukhu acknowledged that successive governments, including his own, have turned a blind eye to such constructions during their development stages.
"No matter which government has been in power, whether ours or theirs, all have kept their eyes closed when these constructions were happening. I believe action must be taken at the very start to prohibit unauthorised construction," CM Sukhu said.
He noted that once illegal structures are completed, pressure builds to regularise them, making it difficult to enforce rules retroactively. To prevent this, the Chief Minister stressed the need for a clear Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure such constructions are dealt with before they become a larger problem.
"We need to establish an SOP to address this, and I will certainly work towards creating it," Sukhu added, signaling his government's intention to take a proactive approach in regulating and preventing illegal constructions across the state.
