Dibrugarh, Assam: State Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah has called on the Assam government to clarify why 10 proposals from the Assam Accord’s Clause 6 report were not approved. Speaking to the media, Borah highlighted that the Ministry of Home Affairs had constituted a committee in 2019, led by Justice Biplab Sharma, to review the implementation of Clause 6. The committee submitted its report to the state government in February 2020.

Borah acknowledged the Assam cabinet's recent approval of 57 out of 67 recommendations from the report. However, he questioned the exclusion of the remaining 10 proposals and demanded that the Chief Minister of Assam explain the reasons behind the decision.

"This is not solely a matter for the state government to decide," Borah said, emphasizing that the central government must also be involved. He urged the central cabinet to deliberate on Justice Sharma’s recommendations to ensure the full implementation of Clause 6.

Borah also accused the Chief Minister of misleading the public regarding the pending ST status for six communities in Assam, claiming that the delay was being blamed on the Congress, while the issue rests with the central government in Delhi.
