BHAVAN’S COMMEMORATES THE BIRTH OF MUNSHI PREMCHAND

The Hindi department of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised a programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of one of the most celebrated Indian writers, Munshi Premchand.

By A STAFF REPORTER: On 31st July 2024, the Hindi department of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised a programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of one of the most celebrated Indian writers, Munshi Premchand.

The event was graced by the presence of the director, Dr. G V Subramanian, deputy director, Smt. Sujata Ghosh, principal, Shri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, and vice principal Smt. Monami Chattopadhyay.

 The programme started by garlanding the portrait of Premchand, followed by Ganesh Vandana, sung by a student of class VI. Next in line was an exemplary ‘Bhavanritya’ performed by a student of class XII. It was accompanied by a ‘prernadai kavita’ called Tum Kab Tak Mujhe Rokoge.

The main attraction of the day was the play Burhi Kaki, enacted by the students of BGKV. This was inspired from Premchand’s story Burhi Kaki (The Old Woman), which portrays the plight of an old woman who is most neglected in her own house.

The students showcased their talent by bringing alive different characters on stage, though their acting skills. This was followed by a quiz, where questions related to the life and work of Premchand were asked. There was a total of four groups named after four famous novels of Premchand. The quiz was played in three rounds.

The first round of the quiz was a general question-answer round but the quiz turned interesting when in the second round, a few children dressed as different characters of Premchand presented themselves on stage and the participants of the quiz were asked to identify the characters. The quiz ended with a Rapid-fire round. The programme concluded with Swaraswati Vandana.

At the end, the principal addressed the students and talked about how writers and poets remain eternal through their work. He inspired the students to read more and explore the immense and enriching world of literature.
