New Delhi: Following the Indian Men's Hockey team's bronze medal victory over Spain at the Olympics, BJD MP Sasmit Patra expressed his elation, calling it a joyous occasion for the entire nation. He highlighted the significance of hockey as India's national sport and praised the team's achievement as a revival of Indian hockey's prominence on the global stage.

"Hockey is the national sport and it is the bedrock of Indian sports," Patra stated, emphasizing the sport's deep roots in the country's culture. "At one time, Indian hockey was in the abyss. Then Odisha state and CM at that time, Naveen Patnaik, sponsored Indian Hockey - men's as well as women's, and it's great to see not only as an Indian but coming from the state that had really pushed Hockey back onto the national and international scene - it's a joyous occasion."
