BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has launched a scathing attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and his party, the DMK, over the historical transfer of Kachchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka. He questioned the circumstances under which the island was ceded and demanded accountability from the DMK, which is currently allied with the Congress.

Poonawalla stated that Stalin should clarify the political forces involved in the decision and explain why the island was not considered an integral part of India at the time. He pointed out that the Congress-led government, under then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was responsible for the transfer in 1974, a move which the Tamil Nadu Congress president recently described as a "strategic manoeuvre."
