Jharkhand: CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has voiced firm opposition to the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, labeling it a direct assault on India's parliamentary process. In a statement, Karat said that when the committee led by former President Ramnath Kovind was formed to explore this initiative, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expressed its objections.

Karat highlighted that this proposal would centralize elections, including those under the purview of state governments, undermining the federal structure. "Local elections, which are the state's responsibility, will also be centralised. This is against the spirit of our Constitution," Karat stated.

She reiterated that the CPI(M) sees this report as an unconstitutional move that could severely damage the country's democratic processes by blurring the line between central and state powers. The party's stance remains firm, rejecting the idea as an overreach that compromises the integrity of India's electoral system.
