Srinagar, J&K — CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami has expressed his dissatisfaction with Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah’s backing of the decision by the J&K Assembly Speaker to prevent a discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

Tarigami, while addressing the issue, said, “Farooq Abdullah is a prominent leader, and the Speaker holds a respected position, but we have learned to ask questions since childhood. Why are they stopping us now?” He emphasized that the J&K Assembly belongs to the people and that it is their right to ask questions and engage in discussions.

Tarigami, a vocal critic of the abrogation of Article 370, highlighted that the Waqf issue is not merely about property but also about the dignity and secularity of the country. He warned that avoiding discussions on such critical matters could lead to divisiveness.

The CPI(M) leader stressed the importance of debate in the legislative assembly, declaring, “The Assembly is a forum for debate and discussion, and it is crucial that such issues be discussed openly.” He urged for a constructive conversation on the matter, asserting that shutting down discussions could have negative consequences for the state's integrity.
