Delhi: CPI (M) General Secretary D Raja has come out in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his recent statements made during international visits. Addressing the media, Raja emphasized that as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi's role is significant both domestically and internationally. He underscored the importance of dialogue and exchange during Gandhi’s interactions with various groups abroad.
"Whatever Rahul Gandhi is speaking abroad, he is the LoP Lok Sabha in India, and that makes him a lawmaker as well," Raja remarked. He added that Gandhi's international engagements provide an opportunity for discussions on various pertinent issues, including those concerning Indian politics.
Raja clarified that, in his view, Gandhi's statements were directed at critiquing the ideology of the BJP and RSS, particularly in the context of their governance and economic policies. "What I understand is that Rahul Gandhi is criticising the ideology of BJP-RSS combined and the economic policies pursued by the BJP-led government in India," he explained.
The CPI (M) leader suggested that instead of dismissing the criticism, the government should take it seriously and reflect on how its policies can be reviewed and justified. Raja's statement comes amid ongoing debates surrounding Gandhi's comments made on international platforms, with some accusing him of maligning India’s image, while others, like Raja, see it as legitimate political criticism.
