Moga, Punjab: Tensions flared in Moga earlier today as farmers organized a protest against recent raids conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The demonstrations were sparked by the NIA’s recent operations aimed at disrupting the activities of the banned CPI (Maoist) group.
Last week, the NIA carried out raids in various locations across Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The agency’s operation was part of a broader crackdown on attempts by the CPI (Maoist) to revive its activities. During the raids, the NIA seized a range of digital and physical evidence, including laptops, mobile phones, pen drives, compact discs, hard drives, memory cards, SIM cards, and pocket diaries.
The farmers' protest in Moga reflects widespread concerns over the impact of these raids on local communities. The farmers argue that the raids have unfairly targeted them, causing significant disruption and raising questions about the extent of the investigations. The NIA’s statement emphasized its commitment to countering any attempts to re-establish banned organizations, but it has yet to address the specific grievances raised by the farmers.
As the situation unfolds, both the NIA and also the protesting farmers await further developments and responses to the ongoing tensions.
