In a recent statement made in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah highlighted the pressing issue of unemployment, terming it the "biggest challenge" facing the region. Speaking ahead of the upcoming elections, Abdullah underlined his party’s commitment to addressing this concern while also stressing the need for unity across Jammu and Kashmir, which he says has been fractured by political divisions.

"The biggest issue here is unemployment," Abdullah said, signaling that job creation would be a top priority for his party. He noted that the lack of opportunities for the region’s youth has exacerbated social problems, contributing to the overall unrest in the Union Territory.

Abdullah also spoke about the rising polarization in the political landscape, asserting that his party would strive to bridge the gaps between different communities. "Our priority will be to unite Jammu and Kashmir and end the hatred spread in this election," he said, adding that communal harmony was essential for the region's prosperity.

He further reiterated his long-standing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, which was revoked in August 2019 when the erstwhile state was bifurcated into two Union Territories. "Statehood must be restored so that the state can function properly," Abdullah insisted, emphasizing that without full statehood, the aspirations of the people could not be adequately addressed.

Abdullah's remarks come at a time when Jammu and Kashmir’s political future remains uncertain, with several parties, including the NC, calling for greater autonomy and an end to the current administrative setup.
