NEW DELHI: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday backed Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha, reiterating that past Congress governments had a history of engaging with terrorists, whereas the BJP has taken decisive steps to combat extremism.

“What he said is true. Was it not a fact that Congress Prime Ministers used to have tea with terrorists who had their support? He simply stated that efforts have been made to eliminate terrorism and extremism,” Singh said while addressing reporters in Delhi.

His comments come after Amit Shah, in a fiery speech in the Rajya Sabha, accused previous Congress-led governments of failing to take a tough stance against terrorism. Shah emphasized that the BJP government has strengthened national security and significantly reduced terror incidents in the country.
