Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has expressed its intent to thoroughly review the recent High Court order directing the closure of 18 loss-making hotels operated by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The state plans to evaluate the situation and address the challenges facing its tourism ventures.
Addressing the media, Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stated, "The government will deeply ponder over this issue and find out the reasons behind the losses incurred by these hotels. We will wait for the committee report before making any final decisions."
The High Court order has raised concerns about the sustainability of the state's tourism infrastructure. With tourism being a key contributor to Himachal Pradesh's economy, the closure of these hotels could impact employment and local businesses.
The government’s next steps will depend on the findings of the committee tasked with analyzing the financial performance of the HPTDC properties and providing recommendations. Chauhan emphasized that the administration is committed to supporting tourism while ensuring fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.
The decision reflects the government's approach to balancing legal directives with the interests of stakeholders dependent on the tourism sector.
