In Koppal, Karnataka, Economic adviser to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Basavaraj Rayareddy, announced that the state government has invested nearly Rs 165 crores to evaluate the social and educational status of the people of Karnataka. This significant expenditure aims to gather essential data that could inform government policies and initiatives.

Rayareddy expressed concern over the handling of a report from the Permanent Backward Commission, which was submitted to the government in 2018. He stated, "Unfortunately, I was told that the secretary of the commission hadn't signed the report and hence it wasn't published or accepted by the government."

He further noted that the political landscape changed after the 2018 Assembly elections when HD Kumaraswamy became Chief Minister, leading to the report's neglect. "In 2018, the Assembly period and the government period were over, and unfortunately, he didn't publish that report," Rayareddy added, emphasizing the missed opportunity for transparency and accountability in addressing the needs of backward communities.

Rayareddy's remarks underline the government's commitment to addressing social disparities while also highlighting the challenges posed by bureaucratic hurdles and political transitions. As Karnataka continues to focus on development, the call for the publication of the commission's findings is seen as critical for shaping effective social policies.
