Delhi: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has criticized the 18% GST imposed on life and health insurance, arguing that the government should leverage its influence to reverse the tax. “The Government has the power to recommend to the GST Council. They should roll it back,” Chidambaram stated, noting that the tax on insurance returns could be detrimental as it exceeds the return itself.

Regarding the upcoming Waqf Act Amendment Bill, Chidambaram urged scrutiny of the bill’s details and intentions. “We have to look at the details and understand the ulterior motive of this government in bringing this bill,” he said, emphasizing the need for transparency and clarity on the proposed changes.
