Bhubaneswar, Odisha — Former Chief Minister of Odisha and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Pana Sankranti, also known as Maha Bishuba Sankranti, marking the traditional Odia New Year.

In a message shared with the public, Patnaik conveyed his wishes for health, prosperity, and happiness to all Odias. He also emphasized the significance of Pana Sankranti as a day of cultural unity and spiritual awakening in Odisha.

Pana Sankranti is observed with much enthusiasm across the state. It marks the start of the solar month of Mesha and the beginning of the new year in the Odia calendar. The festival derives its name from "Pana," a traditional sweet and refreshing drink made with fruits, water, and jaggery, offered to deities and shared among people to combat the summer heat.

The day is also dedicated to various rituals, including worship of Hanuman, Surya (Sun God), and the sacred Basil plant (Tulsi). People visit temples, participate in community feasts, and observe acts of charity, symbolizing hope and positive beginnings.
