Addressing questions on the Maldives' potential membership in BRICS, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated, "I don't think there is any proposal before us of Maldives joining the BRICS." He explained that there has been no official request or expression of interest from the Maldives to join the influential group. Misri also mentioned that he is not aware of any such request being conveyed to the BRICS Chair either.

However, Misri highlighted the Maldives’ involvement in regional groupings such as the Colombo Security Conclave, an Indo-Pacific alliance focusing on security issues. "This is something that has been under discussion for the last few years," he noted, emphasizing the Maldives' active engagement in regional security dialogues, even as BRICS remains outside their current scope of interest.
