Union Minister Piyush Goyal has reiterated the government's balanced approach towards promoting both e-commerce and small retailers in India. Speaking to the media, Goyal affirmed that while the government supports the integration of technology and the expansion of e-commerce for its modern techniques and convenience, it remains committed to ensuring the welfare of small retailers.

“The government has consistently had a very principled stand. We support technology coming into the country. We believe every section has the right to promote their business. We welcome e-commerce for the technology it brings in, for the convenience that it offers, for bringing in more modern techniques and opportunities,” Goyal stated.

He also highlighted the importance of small retailers, noting that there are at least 10 crore small retailers in India whose livelihoods depend on small businesses. “We believe in equity and inclusive growth of all sections. E-commerce has an important role to play, but so do small retailers,” Goyal added.
