Chandigarh | Punjab Minister Balbir Singh has raised concerns over the ongoing issue of stubble burning, highlighting its detrimental impact on both human health and the environment. Singh explained that the harmful effects of stubble burning are first experienced by the individual burning it, followed by their family members and the entire village as they inhale the toxic smoke directly. He noted that this can lead to health issues like coughing, chronic bronchitis, and eye irritation. Vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children, are at an even higher risk.
The minister also emphasized the broader ecological damage, stating that stubble burning not only affects the air quality but also kills wildlife, birds, and beneficial microorganisms that support the ecosystem.
Singh underscored the collective responsibility in combating this issue and assured farmers that adequate equipment is available. He also mentioned the active collaboration of various NGOs in these efforts. “I request the farmers to come and meet us if they have any issues,” Singh said, urging open dialogue and cooperation to find sustainable alternatives to stubble burning.
