BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has accused the West Bengal government of mishandling the investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Poonawalla pointed to recently surfaced audio tapes that he claims support the allegations made by the victim's parents, who have said they were misled by authorities.

"From the very beginning, the West Bengal government was trying to destroy evidence and save the accused," Poonawalla stated. He criticized the delay in registering the FIR and the sanitization of the crime scene, as well as the government's alleged tolerance of vandalism at RG Kar Medical College.

Instead of addressing these issues or resigning, Poonawalla claims that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been "threatening and speaking about revenge." He called for greater accountability and transparency in handling such a serious crime, emphasizing the need for justice for the victim and her family.
