BY A STAFF REPORTER: Want to become a crorepati? Provide pinpointed information on big time tax evaders to the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The principal director general of DGGI, Anil Gupta recently awarded a person Rs 2.5 crores for providing information leading to detection and recovery of several hundreds of crores of rupees in taxes being evaded by a city based businessman.

CBIC on X: "Sh Anil Kumar Gupta, Pr DG, DGGI visited Meerut Zonal Unit &  Ghaziabad Regional Unit today and interacted with officers and staff to  review the working of these units.

DGGI officials maintained that the reward amount is tax free. ANM News has learnt that DGGI officials offer  percent as incentive to their sources for information leading to recovery and detection of tax evaders.

The DGGI maintains a steady source of informars as also encourages people from all walks of the society to tip the agency off on any information on tax evasion.
