Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following the recent amendment of a rule in the Assam Assembly that allowed adjournment for Friday Namaz. The decision to change the rule has sparked controversy, with Yadav accusing Sarma of attempting to gain attention through divisive actions.
In his statement, Yadav remarked, "Assam Chief Minister wants cheap popularity and wants to remain in the news." He suggested that the move was part of a broader strategy by certain political leaders to garner public attention through sensational measures.
Drawing a parallel with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yadav continued, "(UP CM) Yogi Adityanath is using bulldozers and he (Assam CM) is stopping namaz." He argued that such actions are counterproductive to the idea of a harmonious and inclusive India, emphasizing that "the country belongs to everyone, there should be peace."
Yadav accused both Sarma and Adityanath of fostering division and spreading hatred rather than promoting unity among different communities. His comments reflect a growing concern among opposition leaders about the impact of such policies on India's secular fabric and social harmony.
The rule change in the Assam Assembly has been met with mixed reactions, with some supporting the move as a step towards a more secular approach to legislative proceedings, while others, like Yadav, see it as an unnecessary provocation aimed at creating discord among communities. As the debate continues, the focus remains on how such decisions affect the larger socio-political landscape of the country.
